About "The Phygital Times"

The Phygital Times is an online publication and podcast from LV Agency, Inc., New York. It covers the fusion of physical and digital worlds — the phygital era — across art, sport, entertainment, fashion, marketing, AI, Web3, blockchain and luxury.

It launched in December 2024. What began as original content plus news aggregation has become something more specific: intelligence reporting for readers who need to see where value is being written into record next.

Physical. Digital. Why not both?

A generation is being handed a choice it does not have to make.

Physical or digital. One or the other. The framing shows up everywhere — in art collecting, in sport, in fashion, in how brands talk to their audiences — and it is wrong in all of them.

The world stays physically grounded. It always will. What has changed is that a physical thing can now carry a verifiable record of itself, fixed at the moment of making rather than assembled afterward.

That runs in both directions. What is conceived digitally completes itself in matter. What is conceived physically gains a continuity it never had. The record and the thing recorded are not rivals for the same space.

If you tokenize a house, you do not then set fire to the house.

Nobody has to choose. That is the argument, and much of what we publish exists to make it legible on both sides of a divide that was never real.

The method

We run a dual lens.

The record is verifiable current data — named sources, published statements, dates, figures you can check. If we get it wrong here, you can catch us.

The reading is a non-linear interpretive layer applied on top: pattern-matching against longer historical cycles, producing connections the surface data alone does not show.

The two are always separated and always labeled. That separation is the editorial signature. It lets us do something most commentary cannot — combine verifiable current data with an interpretive layer that produces unexpected pattern-matches, without either contaminating the other.

Total Art + Tech

Art+Tech — often written ArtTech — refers to the intersection of creative artistic expression and technological innovation: an evolving field in which artists use digital tools, software, hardware and data as primary mediums. Christie's has convened an annual summit under that name since 2018, and the phrase has traveled since — it now names fair sections, advisory practices, festivals and departments.

That definition is broad — broad enough to cover generative art, VR, installation, digital fabrication and blockchain provenance at once. So we define two narrower terms, and use them the same way every time.

Total Art is the synthesis of image, sound, movement and duration into a single form. It runs from Ancient Greek theater through opera and ballet to film and video art and everything descended from them — and it holds within it every tradition it draws on: painting, sculpture, music, poetry, architecture, the crafted object. Total means total. What time-based work adds is duration: it cannot be taken in at a glance. It is among the oldest traditions we have, and it requires no defending from us.

Total Art + Tech is that work made collectible at the moment of its making — the chain not appended afterward as a certificate, but present in the construction of the work. The mint is the brushstroke.

The line we draw is between technology adjacent to art and technology inside it. A brush is a technology, and nobody calls a painting Art+Tech. What we mean is narrower: work where removing the technology does not leave the same object minus a feature — it leaves a different object, or nothing that can be owned at all.

Related, and equally in need of a plain definition: phygital, or hybrid art — work in which the physical object and its blockchain-secured record are made as one collectible.
